GROTE CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University ofTennessee at Chattanooga announces the Grote
Chemistry Scholarship Program for 2018. Awards of $12,000 ($3,000 per year for four years) will be
presented to as many as three entering freshmen majoring in Chemistry. The awards are renewable over a
four-year period and can be added to other University scholarships and the Tennessee Lottery
scholarship. Grote Chemistry Scholarships are named in honor of Dr. lrvine W. Grote, who served as head of
the department from 1941 to 1964. Previous Grote Scholars have graduated with distinction and gone on to
success in chemistry graduate schools, medical schools, law schools, pharmacy schools, and the chemical
In order to be eligible for a Grote Chemistry Scholarship, a student must meet all of the following requirements:
. Complete a course in high school chemistry with an A or B
. Attain a high school grade point average of 3.5 or above
. Earn a composite score of 26 or above on the ACT exam (1170 on SAT)
. Declare chemistry as the major at UTC
Eligible majors include all BS Chemistry degrees (including chemistry, biochemistry, and STEM education
concentrations). Non-chemistry majors (e.g. chemical engineering, biology, nursing, physical therapy) are ineligible for the Grote Scholarship. A chemistry major is ideal for anyone with an interest in medicine or medically related research, dentistry, pharmacy, forensics, the chemical industry, teaching chemistry, patent law,
environmental issues, materials, or other science and technology related areas.
A separate “Application for Admission” to the university must be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions
at UTC by February 1, 2018. The completed Grote application (submitted online) and two letters of
recommendation for the Grote Chemistry Scholarship (emailed) are due February 15, 2018.
Selection of the Grote Chemistry Scholarship recipients is based on academic performance, interest in
chemistry, and potential for continued outstanding achievement. Announcement ofthe awards will be made in
middle to late April.

NAPAA will once again be offering five $1,000 scholarships to high school senior girls from around the Nashville area. I am attaching the application form, which must be completed and postmarked by Friday, March 16, 2018. Would you be willing to distribute this information to let senior girls know about this opportunity?
There are two requirements to apply for this scholarship:
- Open to all senior girls attending a Nashville area high school
- Applicant must be planning to attend a college/university with a Panhellenic or NPHC sororities
Recipients of the five $1,000 scholarships will be highly encouraged to attend The Nashville Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association Spring Luncheon on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Richland Country Club where they will be recognized. There is no cost for the scholarship winners and one guest to attend the luncheon.

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites students to apply for the 2018 Marjorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship.
This prestigious scholarship is intended for an incoming freshman attending UTC who majors in Mathematics. The Marjorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship is a $5,000.00 scholarship and provides $2,000.00 in the freshman year and $1,000.00 in each of the sophomore, junior, and senior years.
A complete application consists of:
1. Letter of application affirming an interest in a mathematics degree.
2. Two letters of recommendation affirming the applicant’s mathematics ability, at least one of which must be from a recent mathematics teacher.
3. Supporting materials, which should include, ACT/SAT scores and high school transcripts.
