I think that the monument should stay. The monument represents the second most bloodiest battle fought in the Civil War, and it also is a memorial for the average soldier who fought. It is a fact that most confederate soldiers were fighting to protect their homes and farms from the North. It is a fact that most didn’t “fight” for slavery but fought to protect their families. The statue is here to remember what happened in this town that made it famous. People haven’t started caring about it until Charlottesville. It is a piece of history that does not need to be removed from Franklin. It is one thing to remove statues of Robert E. Lee or Nathan B. Forest, but it is a completely different story when it comes to removing statues that are dedicated to Confederate soldiers.
